The 2024 Topps Chrome Update Series releases on Wednesday and is maybe the most anticipated release of this product in recent memory. Is it just for the chance to get a Paul Skenes chrome rookie card?
2024 Topps Chrome Update continues Topps’ legacy of high-quality baseball card collections, now updated with a variety of new designs, rookie inclusions, and a greater selection of parallels. The set includes a 200-card base, featuring both new rookies and recently traded players, all on premium Chrome stock. Base parallels range from retail-exclusive options like X-Fractors to ultra-rare cards such as Black RayWave (numbered to 10) and FrozenFractor parallels (only in Hobby Jumbo boxes), all the way to the sought-after one-of-one SuperFractor.
Inserts for 2024 expand with exciting new themes, including “Chrome All-Etch” and “Stratospheric Stars.” The set also introduces a nod to nostalgia with the “1989 Topps Baseball” insert series, blending classic and contemporary appeal. Collectors can chase special parallels for these inserts, some numbered as low as one-of-one, with SuperFractors
For autograph seekers, there’s a variety of autograph cards across different themes, including Chrome Rookie Auto Lava Lamp cards. Exclusive designs are available in various packs, such as the “Radiating Rookies” and “Celebración” inserts that feature vibrant parallels.
The 2024 Topps Chrome Update product comes in several configurations tailored for collectors and fans of various levels. This series includes Hobby and Jumbo boxes with exclusive content across each.
- Hobby Boxes: Hobby boxes provide a standard array of base card refractors, including color parallels such as Green (#/99) and Gold Mini-Diamonds (#/50), exclusive to Hobby. Key inserts here include “Base Radiating Rookies Variations” and the artistic “MLB Illustrations” by Keith Vlahakis, which are only found in Hobby configurations. Additionally, some inserts, like the “Chrome All-Etch Rookie Rush” and “Celebration,” appear in limited numbers and are Hobby-exclusive.
- Hobby Jumbo Boxes: These feature expanded hit opportunities, adding the “FrozenFractor” parallels (#/-5) exclusive to this configuration. Jumbo boxes include three autographs per box, with parallels like “Gold Refractor Autographs” (#/50) and special “Lava Lamp” designs exclusive to Jumbo, adding extra value for autographed cards.
- Retail: Retail packs, including Monster and Mega boxes, come with exclusive refractor styles like the RayWave and X-Fractor designs. The Aqua RayWave and Blue RayWave are retail exclusives, as well as unique Lava Lamp color parallels numbered to 175.
Across all formats, the 2024 Topps Chrome Update Series highlights new inserts such as “Stratospheric Stars,” “Expose,” and “Home Field Advantage Chrome.” Each box configuration offers varied exclusives, allowing fans multiple ways to collect rare refractors and autographs.
