Connect PayPal to Breaker Toolbox.

PayPal doesn't hand over API credentials from your regular account settings — you have to generate them from PayPal's separate Developer Dashboard. Here's the full path, start to finish.

i
Before you start: you need a PayPal Business account, not a personal one. If you only have a personal account, upgrade it (or create a new business account) at paypal.com/us/business first — it's free.

Get your Client ID and Secret from PayPal

  1. Log in to the PayPal Developer Dashboard
Go to developer.paypal.com/dashboard and log in with your regular PayPal business account credentials — there's no separate signup, your existing PayPal login works here too.
  2. Go to Apps & Credentials
From the dashboard, click Apps & Credentials in the left-hand navigation.
  3. Switch to Live mode
Near the top right, there's a toggle between Sandbox and Live. Make sure it's set to Live.
    !
Important: Sandbox credentials are for testing only and won't let Breaker Toolbox process real payments. If buyers aren't able to check out after you connect PayPal, this toggle is the first thing to check.
  4. Create an app
Click Create App. Give it a name you'll recognize later, like “Breaker Toolbox” — though note PayPal doesn't allow the word “PayPal” itself inside an app name.
    1. Set App Type to Merchant.
    2. Confirm the business account listed matches the PayPal account you want connected to your Breaker Toolbox store.
    3. Check the “Save payment methods” box — this needs to be ticked for Breaker Toolbox to work correctly.
    4. Click Create App to finish.
  5. Copy your Client ID and Secret
You'll land on the new app's details page. Your Client ID is shown directly — copy it. Click Show next to Secret to reveal your Client Secret, and copy that too. You'll need both again in the next step.
    !
Tip: Keep your Client Secret private — treat it like a password. Don't paste it anywhere except directly into Breaker Toolbox and the webhook URL below.
  6. Create a webhook
Still on your app's details page, find the Webhooks section and click Add Webhook.

For the Webhook URL, use this exact pattern, swapping in the Client ID and Secret you just copied:

    Webhook URL
    https://prod.djawn.com/api/payment/paypal/webhook?clientId=[CLIENT ID]&secret=[SECRET]

    Under Event types, check:

    1. Checkout
    2. Payments & Payouts

Save the webhook once both are selected.

Connect it to your Breaker Toolbox store

  1. Enter your credentials
In Breaker Toolbox, go to Store Profile → Payments. Paste your Client ID and Secret into the matching PayPal fields, then click Connect PayPal.
  2. If your account gets restricted
PayPal can be strict with newer business accounts, especially once real transaction volume starts coming through. If yours gets flagged or restricted, contact PayPal support and let them know the account is used for “selling sports cards” — this is a common situation for breakers and is usually a quick fix once PayPal has that context.
i
Note: You only need one of Stripe or PayPal connected to create a break — but connecting both gives buyers more ways to pay. See the Breaker Setup Guide for Stripe setup.
